Graphing Real Numbers On Real Lines

Before we start, there's a few things we need to go over. I learnt this information while in grade 10, 06/07 in Mr. Maksymchuk's classrom. To get this information, click on this link:

So, thats all there is to it. Now that you understand all the signs, all you just have to do is take the information and use it in the question. Lets do one together:

-6 < x < -2

Here's another example:

-5 ≤ x ≤ 4

One more for good luck,

x > 5

The reason why we put the line going to the right is becuase the question says: X is greater than 5. The line we have just put is going to the right, which is greater than 5.

Now, sometimes the question will be asked and you will have to solve for it.

For Example:

-3 x + 3 > -4

Act like the inequality sign (> , ≤ , <, ≥) is like the equals sign(=). Get -3x by itself. Remember, if you divide by a negative you have to change the sign.

-3 x + 3 - 3 > -9 -3
-3x > -12
-3 -3
X < -15

Now, all you have to do is put it on the graph.

GOOD LUCK ON FURTHER QUESTIONS!!
